My desktop and five programs that I can’t live without.

Die Wallpaper

1.) iTunes: When I am on the computer either surfing or working, I need to have music on in the background. It distracts me a lot less than a television. Plus, the television is behind me, so I couldn’t watch it even if I wanted to. The music just keeps me going, keeps me alive during long nights of paper writing and studying.

2.) Microsoft Word: What else would I use to type up all of my writings and school papers on? So far this semester alone, I have written about 20 papers. That comes to about… oh, 100 pages of writing to be turned in alone. Isn’t that unreal?

3.) Paint Shop Pro: Websites don’t design themselves, do they? No. I spend and have spent hours and hours mulling away my time making a layout or an icon, summarily trashing that layout or icon, starting anew, repeating, until I am finally content with what I have produced… even if that satisfaction is often short lived and lackluster.

4.) Notepad: The tool to website building. I code everything by hand in notepad.

5.) Lexmark Imaging Studio: I run a lot of fansites and I do a lot of scanning. This is the program that lets me scan, crop, resize, and save the images so that I can then go into PSP and further edit and crop them to put them online.

10.2.2007 at 3:26 pm | Halloween Costumes

Yes, it is almost my favorite night of the year. Halloween! I love looking at all the new decorations for sale, picking out one thing to splurge on, and browsing costumes. I am always on the search for a good adult Halloween costume. I think that costumes have a sort of dual nature; they should either reflect a person or be so far from what the person is in real life that you barely recognize their personality in it. It’s both a way to express your fun side or to try something new and exciting. I remember when I was a kid, my cousin Stephanie dressed up like a ghost. She was so lazy that all she did was grab a sheet and put holes in it. And then, of course, she had to attach her Jordon Knight New Kids on the Block button to the outside of her costume.

I don’t know what to dress up yet if I decide to…

How about a Bride of Satan?

Bride of Satan

I love the colors. I have always liked red and black paired together. And wouldn’t it be so cute to make Alee Satan? I can put little horns on his head, give him a little pointy tail, and make him carry around a pitchfork. I think that would be adorable. I don’t like the idea of a full Satan costume because those always look cliche. I am more inclined to put a man in a nice suit. I think that’s a better representation for Satan anyway, not some horned red guy. No, Satan has to be a guy who properly models luxury, decadence, and temptation.

I’m a sucker for Fairytales, too. But, I hate those Fairytale costumes that are made up of a short skirt and a tight top. It’s like someone put Alice’s dress in the dryer and shrunk it. I want the Fairytale costume to LOOK like it should be, not to be some sexed up version.

That is why I also like this Little Red Riding Hood costume.

Little Red Riding Hood

I like this one because it’s not revealing and ’sex kitten,’ but it’s still sexy. Now, she just needs a partner who can dress up like a wolf. I would even carry a basket around with read muffins in it. That would be yummy. The lace up bodice is a nice touch. That’s sexier than any short skirt to low top.

I even know about a secret HAUNTED HOUSE backdoor that will get you a great discount. I’ll give you the secret! Go to the homepage halfway down and click on the comma in the line that reads “Our Store now has over 14,000 masquerade items for you to choose from!” It’s right there.

Look at what Alfee bought me…

Penguin Shirt (Hot Topic)

Cute little nurse penguin patching up the heart.

When I think back on myself, I wonder when I became cutesy. I had fire engine red hair, piercings all over the place :piercing: , and weird bondage clothing. I wore some weird things. I was a size 0 then, and a lot younger, so I was a lot more interested in buying clothes that were tight. Not revealing, no, just tight. And okay, pretty short skirts.

Now, I wear dress pants, pink shirts, shirts with cute designs, sweater vests…

Change is nice, though.

10.2.2007 at 12:32 am | What is the point of living?

In my European History class, the professor emphasizes how important Christianity was to the status of Roman women.

He says that under Christianity, the dignity of women was determined by God, not by man. Virginity was prized as opposed to the standard that all Roman women had to marry and have Roman babies…

Yet, I can’t see anything better in Christianity than in the Roman social structure. How can this be better for women when men dominated the very structure of the church, too? How was this an escape from a male dominated world when they were really leaving one only to enter another? God is a male figure, certainly not sexless. When God is referred to, it is as a ‘He’ or ‘Him,’ not as an ‘It.’

And, what is the use of living if there is no sex?

To Secure These Rights: The Report of President Harry S Truman’s Committee on Civil Rights (The Bedford Series in History and Culture), Steven F. Lawson
Publisher: Bedford/St. Martin’s; 2003
Genre: Historical
Pages: 200
Rating: 4 stars

As part of the Bedford Series, this document contains both primary source documents and biographical/historical information. It would be a great resource for students who would have both the primary sources for first hand historical experience and biographical, factual information to place the documents within the correct historical framework. Context is often missing when it comes to primary sources and students don’t get as much out of them as they should because they don’t truly understand the significance lacking appropriate context. Great for students. Hey, great for anyone who has an interest in Civil Rights. This specific book is geared towards the Civil Rights of the 1940s, during the Truman Administration, which casts light on the issue since many believe Civil Rights to be a strong 1960s issue.
